The greatest catalyst (or impediment) to human growth is the maturity level of the institutions they belong to. This is why our approach is communal by design. We treat culture as a social asset that needs to be renewed for high performance.

Community

The roots of deliberately developmental learning organizations are found in community building.

communal decay

Personal growth is a key part of community building. The challenge for organizations, however, is that scale and scope tend to choke personal growth.

Large institutions rely on processes in order to codify and standardize their existing knowledge. Left unchecked, those habit formation practices can dull our capacity for creativity and innovation. At the same time, the absence of new knowledge discovery leads to communal decay and fragmentation.

Renewing Organizations combine habit formation with ongoing knowledge discovery. Their discovery and habituation practices are balanced, so they can access innovation more regularly. Developmental renewal is characterized by big decisions, for example, innovating new products or ventures, spinning-off a line of business, reshaping the organization’s cost structure, and so on.

“No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”

- Albert Einstein

To reach higher levels of maturity, organizations need to engage in developmental renewal. Developmental renewal is a knowledge-creating practice. As such, it requires an understanding of how knowledge is uncovered.

We help organizational communities create their future rather than react to it.

OUR COMMUNITY WORK

We teach business units to cultivate and lead knowledge-creating communities. As part of that we:

  • Lead organizations through a cultural renewal process where they become a learning community.
  • Help business units become communities, aligned with the company’s operating philosophy and capable of operating inclusively.
  • Teach the workforce to build a sense of community in and through the work that they do. Our treatment of organizations as communities assures we can bring alignment to strategy and culture. These need to co-arise and mutually re-enforce one another.
  • Work with management teams to redesign governance processes, organizational structure, and global systems, to enable knowledge creation and high contribution from enabled communities.
  • Apply principles and practices from the little-known field of Transpersonal Psychology to build the company as a knowledge-creating community.

We tap into the latent creativity and knowledge that exists within the community.

Our practices include:

  • Team learning
  • Catalyzing teams into learning communities
  • Collective intelligence
  • Perspective taking disciplines – adaptive learning practices
  • Communal knowledge creation
  • Non-violent communication – learning the art of community dialogue
  • Reflective and inner knowing
